Castlerea Organic Sale

Organic Mart Prices

Castlerea Mart, in Co. Roscommon, hosted an organic sale in conjunction with their usual conventional sale last Thursday. In the Organic section, a full clearance took place with strong demand for bullocks and heifers. The organic cattle sector continues to do well, building on the momentum of the strong sales in Tullow and Drumshanbo since the beginning of the year. Click on the links for each to access the respective price reports. Bullocks were in strong demand, with top prices reaching €2,320 for Charolais bullocks weighing 670kgs. Organic Bullock Heifers fetched up to €1,960, with Limousin heifers weighing 640kgs achieving the top price of €1,960. Organic Heifer Weanling bulls peaked at €4.47 per kg, with heifer weanlings reaching a high of €4.35 per kg. Demand for breeding stock remains strong, while dry cows achieved prices of up to €2,220. Organic Weanling Weanling Heifer After witnessing strong organic prices at Tullow and Drumshanbo earlier this year, it’s hopeful that prices will remain at these elevated levels for organic farmers. Compensation for their continued commitment to more sustainable practices is certainly warranted.
