Beef Factory Prices
Beef processors have wiped a further 3c/kg off their base quotes for both steers and heifers being supplied to their plants this week.
This is the fourth consecutive price cut to beef in as many weeks.
In response to the recent decline in beef prices, many beef farmers have opted to bring their animals to local marts.
Over the past few months, prominent marts, including Carnaross Mart, Gortatlea Mart, Carnew Mart, and Drumshanbo Mart have consistently commanded higher prices across all cattle types.
Beef Factory Volumes
As of the week ending October 15th, 2023, the total number of cattle processed in beef plants amounted to 1,381,842 head, reflecting a 3% decrease when compared to the same period in the previous year.
Farmers should try and resist lower price offers from factories to buy cattle and consider selling their livestock either through the mart or by advertising them online.
